Usually a lot of my projects are interior pieces - so for this, I wanted to do a cityscape. But not just 'a' cityscape. This project went through a few different transitions before finally settling on where it is now.
At first it was going to be a 'futuristic' Earth city. Then it went to a 'well, maybe a futuristic post-apocalyptic' city on Earth. Then it was a city on the Moon, over looking Earth.
THEN it was suggested that it might be cool if it was a moon, but not OUR Moon - So why not, Jupiter is kind of cool and very overwhelming - and very, very large. What a nice contrast to a small city on one of its many small moons.
These two images are the original layout done in Maya. Above, the full city based on a bit of a sketch I did. Below, playing with the landscape and adding in Jupiter.
Here, we've gone and taken the city into Unreal Engine for a game look. I've adjusted the city a bit, so its really kind of more like a space port / memorial. Added the big center building as a focal point with the small buildings framing it.
Also playing with the world fog, and camera angles for final render.
In these I've started working on and adding textures. And a space shuttle.
First time playing with chrome on the big shuttle-landing-port building.
Below, I thought 'well, with a moon that doesn't have atmosphere, and it being the future and all, wouldn't they have some kind of protection around the city?'
Force field! I like how it sort of reminds me of the aurora borealis, and gives it all something of an ethereal feel.
Above, a shot of some of the landscape.
Below, after adding in and tweaking textures ( the force field is smoother, not sure which version I like better.); and then of course a bit of DOF, and we have a final render.
