SHINOLA!
Did I Hear You Say You Love Me
Live at the Mac Hotel
The opening track of Stevie Wonder's Hotter Than July
Formed in 2009, Shinola! has taken it's name from the 2nd World War era Boot Polish, and the associated phrase : To know one's Shit from Shinola.
In 2008, after a solid year touring, Tim took the money and ran. His travels took him to the musical centres of the USA.  Los Angeles, New Orleans and New York City were called home for 4 months.  It was there he got the inspiration for the project.  Why were the singers he was working with so keen on sticking to playing songs just like the recorded versions? Why not play songs in a completely different context? After all, his long time friend and mentor, the late Jackie Orszaczky, said "A good song will always be a good song, no matter how you play it"
The band consists of some of Australia's finest musicians.  Singer Sally Marett graduated from Southern Cross University in 2006, moving to Sydney to further her career.  Musical Director and Band Leader Tim Curnick is currently the bass player for Old Man River, The Whitlams frontman Tim Freedman, NGAIIRE and The New Dynamites.  He spent a year as the houseband bass player on ABCTV's The SideShow with Paul McDermott, the best part of two years with 13 time Golden Guitar winner Adam Brand, as well as numerous projects, bands, and studio/tv appearances.  It has been this varied career that has introduced Tim to numerous styles and countless gifted musicians.  Aaron Flower, Guitar, is the recipient of the Wangarratta National Jazz Award for Guitar.  Sam Boyd, keys, currently tours with Guy Sebastian, and previous tours include the Beautiful Girls and Mia Dyson.
Dave Hibbard is longtime musical collaborator with Tim, and currently tours with Tim Freedman as well as recording for the BadLoves and his other band The Organ Donors.
Touring commitments of Shinola members mean that special guest are prevalent, including Luke Dubber (Keys - Hermitude), Sam Hawksley (Guitar), Evan Mannell (Drums - Elana Stone, The Alchotlicks) as well as many others.  The band is structured to allow for this and to showcase different musical inspirations.
