elevated planters
While owning houseplants can lead to an increase in health and wellbeing, an abundance of them can clutter the home and take up a large footprint. With the elevated planters, I wanted to connect plants to create an ecosystem of life inside your living space.
This project began as a way to learn expressive prototyping and further refine my model making skills. Designers typically ideate through sketching on paper, however by creating models I was able to generate ideas and also interact with them.

process
Instead of starting with sketching, I created forms out of paper and wire. One of the models I created explored the relationship between two plants. This idea resonated with me and I continued to refine the concept.
recap
This project taught me a more artistic and abstract approach to design. Playing with paper doesn’t seem to be the typical workflow for a professional designer, but doing so helped me generate ideas that are practical and manufacturable. I am currently working with a sheet metal manufacturer to bring this product to life.
