A series of paintings based on a two month trip around the USA, particuarly focused on Los Angeles and Palm Springs. The series is a response to previous projects Modernist Architecture in Film and The Dark Underbelly of Suburbia- both of which were based on California as seen through the filter of pop culture. In USA IRL I have used my own photographs and observations as the source material and aim to explore the contrast between the real and imagined versions of the USA.
