This project was focused on bringing back mana to the harbour front and putting a more pedestrian focus on the city centre. The scope of the project covered the edges around the Onepoto arm of the harbour, but the main focus was the city centre and train station area. These areas were seen to have lots of potential due to their ownership and amount of under-utilized land. For the design, I put a strong emphasis on the pedestrian experience and views from existing pedestrian gathering points. Allowing better flows to the water’s edge and blocking out harsh views of large infrastructural elements, like the highway, while also providing more variation in the harbours edge condition.
