As part of NIFT's Craft Cluster Initiative, in June 2019, I had the opportunity to work on the documentation of Solapur's Handloom Towels, locally called Pancha.
Solapur is a one of Maharashtra's biggest textile clusters and with industrial and power looms taking over, the handloom sector is struggling.
This document is the result of a group effort wherein 10 days were spent in Solapur during the summer of 2019 interacting with artisans and weavers who are still using traditional handlooms and keeping the textile crafts of Solapur alive.
