Beautiful & Intricate Handmade Bamboo Product Designs
Sampoorna Bamboo Kendra | Non-profit
January 2007
I photographed various handmade bamboo products to be used in various marketing, sales, education & fundraising efforts
Sampoorna Bamboo Kendra is a non-profit based in the village of Lawada, in the Melghat Tiger Reserve (Maharashtra, INDIA). There work involves bamboo artisan-based livelihood generation and other social work for over 20 years.
I spent a year living and working with the artisans and the founders of SBK. These photographs are of the handicrafts produced by bamboo artisans at Sampoorna Bamboo Kendra's production center in Lawada.
I used some guerilla style digital photography techniques to produce these, as they were taken in the middle of the jungle with limited access to electricity and no equipment. I used the macro-mode on a point-and-shoot, with two pieces of bright orange poster board and the middle of a bright hot summer day as lighting.
