Desk Lamp Magnifier
While working as a mechanical design engineer at Carson Optical, I had the opportunity to design a desk lamp magnifier. The goal was to create a versatile everyday tool that would compliment any workspace. This product consists of two main bodies, a weighted base and a lighted magnifier, connected to each other using a flexible gooseneck. The main lens provides 2X magnification with an additional 5X spot lens. All parts, with the exception of the gooseneck and electronics, are intended to be injection molded plastic.
Prototyping
Prototypes were built with parts that were 3D printed on a Form 2 using White resin. They were then lightly sanded and finished with paint. Molded optics were provided by our manufacturing partner. The flexible gooseneck and the electronics (PCBs, COB LEDs, USB-C Port) were sourced and assembled with 3D printed parts.
Production
After working with our manufacturing partner and suppliers through several prototypes and numerous adjustments, the desk lamp magnifier went into production. Now available online and in stores.
