COMMUNISM VISUALISED BY THE EQUALITY OF THE FARM FENCE THAT IS DISRUPTED BY THE DICTATORSHIP
Orwell’s chilling ‘fairy story’, is a timeless and devastating satire of idealism betrayed by power and corruption. When the downtrodden animals of Manor Farm overthrow their master Mr Jones and take over the farm themselves, they imagine it is the beginning of a life of freedom and equality. But gradually a cunning, ruthless élite among them, masterminded by the prigs Napoleon and Snowball, starts to take control. Soon the other animals discover that they are not all as equal as they thought, and find themselves hopelessly ensnared as one form of tyranny is replaces with another.

DESIGN CONCEPT
A book about communism and the abuse of power. I have symbolised communism as simply as possible through similar planks of wood. All the planks are equal and each has the same amount of space, together they form a fence. However, one is different from the rest and this breaks the rhythm of the equality of communism. At the same time, the broken plank visualises the escape of the farm animals from their pens.
