Inventive Experience: Prop Design Process & Design Intent Documents (Work in Progress)
Originating from my own inventive experience named the Stardust Arcade & Diner, I began designing a prop that guests would use in our laser tag experience.

Moving away from the clunky vest and heavy blaster, I propose a new way to play laser tag: by wearing a futuristic gauntlet and vest that is comfortable, cool, and improves on the classic experience.
I began with many ideation sketches of how I wanted the overall look to be, taking a lot of inspiration from mid-century modern designs and retro ideas of the future.
I then started prototyping in order to work in both comfort and function. My major design challenges include: making it function (and therefore, working with electronics and sensitive components), making it comfortable, and above all, making it look really, really cool.
Below is my most recent protoype, representing a design that has been updated significantly due to alterations and to accomodate functional elements. I anticipate continuing to alter elements like the belts, which, currently have the buckles located in the back.
And finally, my most recent design intent documents for the different parts of this functioning prop. The first page includes details on the gauntlet specifically, and the second is an in-depth look at the electrical components that will be included in fabrication very soon.
This project is a work in progress and will be updated. Next step - fabrication!
