Our assignment was to illustrate the following design principles :Value, complexity, inward movement, hierarchy and outward movement using only black and white triangles. After this, we had to add two lines to enhance the composition and then we had to replace the lines with text and the triangles with images. This exercise taught me an alternate way of designing posters and it pushed me to use positive and negative space more effectively. It also further strengthened my understanding of the design principles.

Our next assignment focused largely on positive and negative space and design principles. Our first task was to draw an organic black and white image which had a good distribution of positive and negative space. This was the image I came up with :

Then we had to pick out parts from the composition that we found interesting; in terms of the interlocking of positive and negative space.

Now we were given 3 pairs of 6 design principles : isolation and emphasis, progressive rythm and seperation, dominance and hierarchy. Now we had to use the sqaures above to illustrate these design principles
