Hi friends!

GAC Group is a very powerful and famous Chinese company, one of the largest car manufacturers in the world. In our opinion their logo is not attractive enough to be popular abroad. When you put the existing GAC logo with top global car brands’ logos, you will see that GAC is not at the same level. In this article we are going to analyze the problems and propose a solution to help GAC be more attractive and successful.

DISCLAIMER: This redesign is made with educational and experimental purposes, to demonstrate our approach with concrete examples and help those brands we took as references, but in no way to offend, mock or troll them. It’s important to be constructive and positive, not destructive and negative. All the pictures are just hand drawn rough sketches in order to express the design direction. Please keep that in mind.


LET’S ANALYZE THE EXISTING LOGO.
1. The main problem is that the logo is not readable or recognizable. A viewer doesn’t understand what it means. It’s difficult to realize that it is a letter “G” and to see such a shape in the mind.


2. The logo is not attractive because of the disharmony expressed in:
2.1 The sharp left tip of the horizontal bar aims at the smooth curve of the oval.
2.2 The solitary notch is inharmonious and distracting.
2.3 The logo is unbalanced because of the heavy right side.
2.4 Not successful combination of curved surfaces with sharp edges.

Also the logo has no distinctive style. Looking at it you don’t feel the character, values and personality of the brand.


3. The font is not suitable because it expresses inconsistency. The thickness of horizontal elements is much less than the thickness of vertical elements, which actually isn’t a problem, but in this case it does not look good because it makes no sense. The same applies to the crossbar of the letter “A”, which is not connected to the main stroke.


LET’S FIX IT.
1. In this case, it is best to develop a new logo by keeping the letter “G” as the main element and making it stylish but readable.


2. We achieved the harmony of the logo by using a symmetrical grid of a rectangle with the side ratio 1:2.


3. Let’s pick a new font. Now it looks fresh, solid, consistent and it matches the new alternative logo.


4. Let’s give the font a more fresh and powerful color.


You can see the red tone comparison of different famous car brands together with GAC’s old (2) and new (1) colors.


We gave the logo and the font a similar style – both elegant and bold. It looks solid.
The best method to test the logo is to put it together with logos of top global car brands. Let’s take a look.
Now not only does it looks like it’s from the same level, but it is also original because it doesn’t look similar to any other car brand’s logo.


Now let’s look at it on existing cars.
You can clearly see that the old GAC logo simply doesn’t match the car design, but the new alternative logo perfectly reflects the style and looks international.


The difference is obvious. We hope that GAC Group will consider our offer, which is made with the best intentions to help them be more successful both in China and in the international arena.
