Design Objective:
In this project, the designer chooses a film director and designs a hypothetical film festival by conceptualizing a visual system and coordinating a complex set of materials. This project will present a visual system in the form of a film festival, and this visual system comprises several design elements that will work together to tie an otherwise disparate collection of materials to present the film festival in a systematic style.
Design Approach:
I chose to design the Jean-Pierre Jeunet film festival. Jean-Pierre Jeunet’s films are humorous, romantic, fantastic, but also hazy, bittersweet, and sad. The director is good at setting off the inner world of the characters and the social reality through his unique cinematography, high contrast color schemes, and realistic settings. I used different materials to depict Jean-Pierre Jeunet’s film style and my personal inspirations in a visual system. The idea is to marry multiple messages with divergent formats—all with a unified aesthetic.
