In a society that has become disconnected from healthy reality and filled with distorted views of what is “normal,” many people become preoccupied with physical appearance. We are constantly picking apart and assessing what we like or dislike about our own or someone else’s body. I believe people often go so far as to subconsciously piece together the desirable parts of others’ bodies in an effort to make a hypothetical “whole” that perfectly suits their ideals. Through portraiture, I have explored this societal way of “looking” as an activity in which we all engage, perhaps without even realizing.
