The Urban Feeder:
A Vertical Farm + Housing Community
With the present stagnation in housing spaces and the detach of consumers from their food sourcing and agriculture in urban areas It is a growing necessity to revive Agriculture and Housing- Living spaces within the urban setting of Taligao-Panjim to act as a catalyst for future urban development for a more sustainable way of living.
The design seeks to mix the two factors of producing your own food within your own farm or land, or within your vicinity or neighborhood and tries to bring the production of food back to the cities and urban areas. The growth of produce within the city limits also decreases sourcing costs, packaging costs, transportation prices, as well as provides more control over needs. The ability to grow more produce in vertical settings and using facilities such as hydroponics and aquaponics ignores the need for massive ground usage and removal of topsoil.
The core resolution of the project is to design an insert in Taliegao, Camrabhat that will provide housing support and work as a self-sustainable housing solution for the residents with their supplements and food intake.
