Festival of Philosophy

Festival Moralia
Moralia is a philosophical festival focused on morality, fighting to keep the greatest philosophers in our minds.

Challenge
Use a graphic design to show philosophical ideas.

Solution
Medieval emblem was inspiration for festival posters, so every poster is a riddle to solve.
Booklet is creating additional meanings by overlapping pages and short videos are using motion to show the meaning of words.

"Emblem" in this sense refers to a didactic riddle, combination of picture and text intended to draw the reader into a self-reflective examination of his or her own life. It was first introduced in 16th century. The goal of the riddle is to find out the connection between the title and the picture.

It's made of three parts:
title (from latin lemma) – which is the first half of the riddle, a clue, context (on my posters it's the name of the festival – Moralia – so the riddles are about the morality obviously.
picture (from latin imago) – the second half of the riddle
description – that's the verbal explanation of the riddle, showing the connection between the lemma and imago – in this project the description part is a philosopher maxim.

Words and visuals are complementing each other, but still leaving the space for individual thoughts and interpretations. Morality is not only the theory, but our daily duty. Hence the space for individual notes on the last pages of the booklet.
