Air Travel Icons
I have spent much of my life overseas, and I wanted to make an icon set that represents objects needed in airplane travel. These icons can be used in different infographics in different travel blogs, or places in the airport.
Step One: Sketching
I began my project by making a list and sketches of different items used in airport travel. There were some that I thought would make a good icon, but while I was sketching the icon, I realized that there were no good angles or ways to display the icon. I then would go back to the drawing board -literally- and sketch new ideas for the icons. I found that I gravitated mostly toward different beverages people usually have while flying. I realized that I needed to look further. I then started thinking of different types of media people use on planes, what they wear, or what beauty products they use. The ideas then started flowing. I filled up pages and pages with ideas.
Step Two: Drafting
I began drafting my sketches for the icons on Adobe Illustrator. I found some sketches to be too intricate to make successful icons. I also found that some did not come across like I wanted. I would then go back to step one, and sketch some more ideas. Then I would go back to Illustrator and try again. I also would take suggestions from other people, and incorporate it into my design. I could not find a color scheme I liked, so I would need to adjust. I also found that there were different line strokes I did not like, and would then also need to adjust more. One of my biggest struggles was figuring out how detailed or minimalistic to make my design. Some items could be more minimalistic, where others needed to be more detailed to understand what they represented.
Step Three: Final Design
After a lot of sketching and drafting, I had my final product. I had 12 icons that are unified and can be used to represent the different comforts needed to fly.
