After pairing colours of different tones and shades together I then played around with some of my favourite designs I drew and gathered from the seaside, and kept developing them and showing them in a variety of combinations. So by changing round the patterns and colours I was able to see what works well.
This page was discussing all the different colour schemes I associated with the seaside. So firstly you have the classic deckchair red with blues and greens and the sandy yellow, but I didn't want to go too classic so I looked at the more muted and dull shades that I mainly gathered from the pebbles and shells. However after doing some more research especially at Dawlish I came across the terracotta rock paired with deep blue and green of the sea.
This page below is another few samples of pattern development I did, this also showed the effect and texture of the watercolours I used as it they are very muted and subtle so therefore could be paired with accessories or other pattern and not contradict it.
