Talking Turkeys is an unconventional collection of straight-talking poems about heroes, revolutions, racism, love, and animal rights, among other subjects. My task was to create a new book cover that would bring in new readers, primarily children aged 8 to 12.
For this design I used vibrant colours and a specific colour scheme that is a bit more natural and tied with the turkeys. Since this is a book cover for children, I decided to make the turkeys look very friendly and inviting.
I decided that experimenting with these kinds of illustrations and art style would be good because it works very well in a children's book. I used very simple shapes and then added texture and shading in photoshop, this makes the design pop out and look more interesting.
I wanted to use warm and vibrant colours to make the design livelier. I feel like they work well with the overall theme. For the typography I decided to use a grungy wood-like textured primary font and a simple and clean secondary font. I didn't want for the primary font to stand out too much because it's not the focal point so it's texture and colour helps to blend it with rest of the design.
