Three wise birds
Last few years I was frequently asked to draw birds and I've come to really like it.
I find it especially interesting to try and translate the patterns of their feathers into patterns of hatches and the contrasts between the bird as a subject and the shadows and light in the background.

In making the series of three owls presented here, the same Rotring drawing pens were used as in the illustrations for the book 'Elf steden, 11 verhalen' (line widths 0.2 and 0.3).
Barn owl (Kerkuil in Dutch)
Eagle owl (Oehoe in Dutch)
