MacBook Box Redesign
As someone who spends the majority of their day at a computer, I have noticed that my posture has been suffering being hunched over all day. Recently I decided it was time to step up my work space and add in a laptop stand. While searching the web I noticed that the structure of a laptop stand is actually very simple and minimal. So, I took it upon myself to save some money and construct my own out of an easily attainable material: cardboard. Then I got to thinking, if it is made of the same material that the laptop comes in, why not combine the two?
If you are spending a significant amount of money on a laptop, you don’t want to pay the price of neck problems down the road. My idea is to promote the integration of ergonomics in your workspace as a part of the price you pay for this piece of technology.
Benefits: There are many benefits to using a laptop stand such as:
● The laptop stand always offers the right viewing height
● Reduced physical strain in your neck, shoulders and upper back
● Increased comfort and improved productivity
Height: A laptop stand should raise your laptop so that your eye level is 1 to 2 inches below the top of your screen when you're sitting (or standing) up straight so that you are placing less pressure on your neck and shoulders.
Assembly: I wanted the assembly to be easy and not require any extra steps such as glueing. I also wanted to make sure that the majority of the material is being utilized and not cut away, thrown away or disregarded. I chose to make the stand foldable so that it makes for easy storing and lessens the chance of pieces being lost.
Testing: Over the course of the 3 weeks that I had to complete this project, I tested out a variety of laptop stand prototypes to see which one that I liked the best.
