This project was to create a book jacket where I used one the given titles, "It's Alive: How Biology Will Create the Monsters of Our Nightmares." I decided to make the background pink where it would be easier for readers to read the title and texts. I framed my jacket with a yellow strand of DNA because the the scientific photos of DNA strands were hard to work with and they did not match with my background color. I struggled to figure out what kind of experiments were involved in altering DNA and how DNA would be involved in creating something horrific. In the end, I learned how scientists combined altered animal and human DNA to create hybrids so I decided to base my jacket and story on that. Coming up with the design was difficult because I did not want to use images of fictional hybrids from comic books, movies, etc. and I had trouble finding images that would help me create my own monstrous hybrid. The images of the hybrid I used came out and in black and white because it looked more scary than the colorful images of certain body parts. I also added human and lizard blood cells to by jacket in order to match the title of my jacket and to be a symbol of what kind of experiments are happening within the story. I also had tweezers be placed on the DNA strand to show how scientists alter DNA. And last but not least, the needle, the bloody hand print, the claw mark, and green slime (suppose to be lizard's blood due to it sometimes being green) are to work together in bringing a feeling of fear when looking at the jacket before reading the story.
