This is a trompe l’oeil oil painting on a wood panel. This was painted from life. This is a tribute to my cat, Angel, that died in 2015. I took the letter that the vet sent me after they put her down and wrapped it with a piece of ribbon, which was one of her favorite things to play with. I also used the metallic candy to show that it’s still bittersweet as the memories are filled with love, but I still miss her.

This is a symbolic still life painting done from life. This is painted on MDF board. This is a more negative take of the typical formal still life. There are typical elements like wine glasses, flowers, and fruit, but there’s something wrong. The flowers are dead and the glasses are broken. This piece is about the inevitability of death while also showing a subtle nod to suicide.

This is an investigative still life done from life. This oil painting was painted on a wood panel as a way to show details without any texture showing through. The aim of this painting was to show all the detail within the crystalline champagne glass. I filled the glass with colored liquid and placed it in a white space as a way to show the transparency of the liquid.

Roasted Chicken Ramen Cup, 8x8 inches, Oil on wood panel, 2020

This is a quick 45 minute painting of a roasted chicken ramen cup. The goal of this painting was to loosen up and step away from the details. Sometimes I tend to add more detail than necessary, so this was an exercise to get me out of that headspace. I used a small 8x8 wood panel for this piece. I used quick brushstrokes and blocked in the bigger shapes before going back to add details I could before time was up. This was definitely a challenging piece for me, but it was very successful.
