This piece best showcases my ability to represent familiar things that are accurate and true to life while also being stylistically expressive.
Autobiographical Drawing
Class: ART121 Observational Drawing
Professor: Maggie Myers
For my autobiographical drawing, I tried to find areas around my living space for a still life that best portrayed who I am as a person. I drew quick and gestural thumbnails of each option, then decided to use the still life on my dresser. When I felt satisfied with the still life's composition, I started to block in basic shapes, shading, and details with black and white charcoal on grey paper.
The objective of the autobiographical drawing project was to create or find a still life that communicates our personality and use charcoal for the drawing medium. The objects I chose to depict in my drawing have a memory tied to each one. The picture is from my Sophomore homecoming with my two high school best friends. The Spider-man figurine was gifted to me for my birthday (from one best friend in the picture frame.) The candle was another gift I received from a good high school friend during a senior auction. The astronaut figurine was a souvenir from my 8th grade trip to Washington DC. Space has always fascinated me! Lastly, the rubber ducks were from an arcade date with my boyfriend. Overall, each item in the composition are very sentimental to me and tells a piece of my story.
