Women With ADHD: PSA Campaign

 Women With ADHD: PSA Campaign
Project for ART235: Graphic Design at Brigham Young University - Idaho
This project is a set of three posters designed to highlight common situations shared by women with Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD, who may not realize they have it. The objective of the campaign is to help them recognize their symptoms as potential ADHD and encourage them to seek diagnosis and treatment.
Continue scrolling for closer views of each poster.
Girls with ADHD present very differently from boys, and so often fly “under the radar,” missing their diagnosis in childhood. Some are even high-functioning in school and do not realize they have a disorder until adulthood, when more executive functioning is expected of them and they begin to realize they are more overwhelmed than their peers.
Simple daily tasks such as laundry, dishes, and paperwork can feel constantly overwhelming -- bigger than they really are.
These women are often unaware that ADHD symptoms differ in women, and are susceptible to negative self-talk. They tend to think they are naturally lazy, flaky, ditzy, messy, or disorganized rather than realizing that they have a treatable disorder. They also may hide the chaos of their lives, feeling ashamed that they aren’t managing as well as they think they should be.
If someone this small can't be expected to complete a chore this much bigger than she is, why should you have to struggle through life without help?
Women need to be informed and aware of the symptoms of ADHD, know they are not alone, and understand that the condition is treatable. They should seek education and treatment (medication or otherwise) to help them manage their lives more smoothly and ease their stress and overwhelm.

Aside from CHADD.org, shown on the poster, another excellent resource if you're stumbling across my campaign and starting to wonder is ADDitude Magazine, where I found several articles that I realized were talking about me. This project is close to my heart, and I fought through my own lack of focus and low self-image to be able to put it in front of other women. I hope you find it helpful.
This is a student project and was not actually sponsored by the Ad Council or CHADD, although both are excellent resources.
