Digital Detox Retreat
A group project designed in collaboration with: Tony Martinez
Narrative: The Marble Falls Digital Detox Retreat provides an escape for individuals to disconnect from their electronically consumed world and reconnect with themselves, the community, and nature. The retreat located between Marble Falls and Austin, Texas allows for people from both areas to enjoy a three to nine day stay at the retreat. When undergoing digital detox, it is important for electronics to be collected at the front admissions desk during the check in process. Guests will then be shown to their private lodging, followed by an introduction to the retreat which provides an assortment of activities and aims to promote mental and physical wellbeing. Buildings in the retreat include a restaurant, cooking classroom, greenhouse, creativity center, wellness center, and horse stables, along with gardens, outdoor trails for horseback riding, forest bathing, and biking. While experiencing the Greenhouse, Outdoor Garden, and Cooking Classroom, guests can engage in lessons on food and healthy habits that will apply after their stay. Meanwhile, the Creativity Center provides pottery and painting classes, along with a library and roof terrace with views of the horse pasture and surrounding landscape. Lastly, the Wellness Center will include counseling assistance, massage therapy, an indoor gym, and outdoor swimming pool. From this building the path splits into two trails that leads to a yoga pavilion for meditation and a horse stable for horseback riding and animal therapy. The Digital Detox Retreat is on a secluded site meant for people to recharge, reflect, and reevaluate their relationship with digital technology. This experience provides new tools and inspiration for finding a balanced, healthy, and meaningful lifestyle when with or without digital technology.
