Punk Rock Poster
I took an art class to learn how to use color to enhance design. In the class, I learned about the different art movements throughout the decades. I was then tasked with designing a “Historical Poster” to capture an art decade. I was given Punk/Digital art from 1985-2000. I was particularly inspired by the rock & roll posters of the era. I chose to do a punk poster in the style of the 1980s with the modern group: Panic! At The Disco.
Design Ideas
I did some research about the 1985-2000 period to see what was popular. LiveAid, rock posters, and the saturated colors of MTV caught my attention. I was originally going to make a poster that would blend with the time period, but decided to do something more modern. Panic! At The Disco is one of my favorite pop/alternative groups, and I could see be punk.
Photograph
I took a regular photograph of the lead singer of Panic! At The Disco, and I used Adobe Photoshop to have the saturated colors of the time period.
1st Iterations
For the poster design, I played with different bright combinations and typography. I liked the idea of using complementary colors to make the colors stand out.
Design Critique
My class and teacher critiqued my work, and I took notes of what they thought I could improve on. The main consensus was to use the green/pink combination but to play more with the typography.
Final Poster Design
For the final design, I used distressed fonts and made them look more chaotic like the time period.
