Taste the World: International Recipes

Taste the World is a recipe book that began as a healthy eating guide and evolved into
a book of recipes from around the world. The target audience is women and men who
have a taste for something unique and different from the readily available American
and many inauthentic international foods, and those who want to avoid paying
for overpriced dinners.
I began by creating a grid and laying the information out in InDesign. I chose the best
of the international recipes I gathered from America’s Ethnic Cuisines by Better Homes
& Gardens. The goal was to have the text and images be organized and easy to follow.
The cover is a wine-colored cover stock with the ethnicities listed in yellow. The inside
of the book comprises a one-column grid, large headings, clearly listed ingredients,
numbered directions, and full-bleed images. The headings and subheadings are
Futura Medium Condensed, and the text is Garamond (bold, regular, and italic).
Each ethnic food group has its own color scheme to reflect the culture and food.
Everything is broken into distinct, cohesive groups in Taste the World. The
photographs add color and work as a visual reference for the end result. Hierarchy
is distinguished with text size, the use of different styles, and the placement of text
on the pages. The spiral binding runs along the top (short) side for a more
unique composition.
