Plywood Chess End Table

The aim of this project was to create a piece of furniture that used only one sheet of plywood and was created using CNC. I wanted the object to be more useful than just another surface to lay cups and magazines on so I opted to create a simple game table. 

The project was created using Rhino and then was imported into Fusion 360 to generate the tool path files. 

The black square pockets needed to be deep enough cuts to distinguish them from the blank white squares without paint or stain. This meant that the surface would need some kind of clear epoxy resin finish to even the surface out. This had the added benefit of protecting the wood from any spills or condensation. No coasters needed!

The drawer is large enough to keep both a set of chess and checkers pieces in and it also provides a nice space to keep taken opponents pieces.
