Calamity Atelier | Competition Entry

Mountains, as mystical places with a peaceful atmosphere, need a spiritual and a thoughtful approach when it comes to design a building. The concept is deeply related with the sense of place of the mountains in Arte Sella. Aim is to provide an architecture of senses, architecture which provokes emotions, and will help the artist to achieve the inner peace for the artworks and for the public to better perceive emotionally these works.

Museum of Disappeared Artworks
Museum will be concrete structure to express its monumentality. It will have a linear distribution and a programmatic movement. Every space in the museum is thought to transmit a certain feeling to the user. Feeling that will be reflected by sense of space, materials, nature and light. A timeline of spaces aiming to let the visitor go through different periods of the area, The Past, showing memories from the history of artworks – Calamity, expressing sense of tension – The Future, representing hope.
Use of natural materials is to better express the cohabitation of buildings with the surroundings. Wood and concrete, will be two main materials used in our three buildings. Naked texture of materials is left to express asceticism and tension. Layers of memories will add to the surfaces of the buildings with the passing of the years and decay of materials. Walls as concepts to express time, and spaces to express history and motion.
