CONCEPT | コンセプト

Kiri 霧 means fog and it refers to the scarce visibility, the analogy comes up since in order to have fog first it is necessary it rains in order the sun appears again, therefore the short film explores the balance of light and darkness not only in literal way but also how humanity is destroying itself.

キリとは霧を意味し、視界がほとんどないことを指します。最初に霧が発生するには、太陽が再び現れるためには雨が降る必要があるため、この例えが現れます。したがって、この短編映画は文字通りの方法だけでなく、光と闇のバランスを探求しています。だけでなく、人類がいかに自らを破壊しつつあるのかも。

THE PROCESS | プロセス

The process for making the short film began with modeling basic structures as in classic russian brutalism buildings, having in mind the main idea is to narrate a story. For this we used 3D Max and Cinema 4D, the render was not a problem since Scanline did a magnificient work.

The fog was the difficult part of the process since the render engine we used does not have this facility, so we created multiple transparent layers and assembled them in After Effects as a compositing process. By applying this we were able to create powerful volumetric lighting; this element was essential for creating a very unique tone and mood, which is usually difficult to properly capture in CGI work.

この短編映画の制作プロセスは、物語を語ることを主な目的として、古典的なロシアのブルータリズム建築のような基本構造をモデリングすることから始まりました。このために 3D Max と Cinema 4D を使用しましたが、Scanline が素晴らしい仕事をしてくれたので、レンダリングは問題ありませんでした。私たちが使用したレンダリングエンジンにはこの機能がないため、フォグはプロセスの難しい部分でした。そのため、複数の透明レイヤーを作成し、合成プロセスとして After Effects でそれらを組み立てました。これを適用することで、強力なボリューム照明を作成することができました。この要素は、CGI 作品で適切に表現するのが通常難しい、非常にユニークなトーンと雰囲気を作成するために不可欠でした。
