Motion Graphic Animation

This was a college project and my first introduction to motion graphics. The project had a open brief that’s only requirement was to create a 20 second opening title sequence. Excited to jump into the world of motion graphics, I put forth a plan to design a three minute long opening title sequence, that would complement a interactive graphic novel web application that I was developing in another class.

With multiple ongoing projects, a tight 6 week deadline and this being my first introduction to the workings of Adobe After Effects, I felt confident (perhaps compelled to do so) that I could achieve this goal.

I started crafting a detailed storyboard, shot by shot breaking down the graphic elements required and how camera positions and scene transitions would be approached; as well as timing shots with the infamous Danny Elfman Beetlejuice soundtrack.

After a productive 6 weeks I to my own surprise was able to complete, render and edit the final product with 3 days to the deadline. This was a very enjoyable experience and one I’ll continue to cherish.

The biggest takeaway from this project was forming a detailed plan of action, listing all possible obstacles that could impact the production and getting out ahead of them early on in the process.

The most enjoyable part for me besides the final outcome, was the pre-production phase; creating the asset library of elements required for production.
