Troye Sivan

“YOUTH” is an animated lyrics video based on the song of the same name by Troye Sivan. We went with a pink palette to accentuate the aesthetic vibe of the original song. Line illustration, along with motion graphics, typography and special effects were used to effectively convey the story we wanted to share. The project was carried out over the span of 3 months under the supervision of Mr. Giản Thanh Thế Phong for our Interactive Media class at Ton Duc Thang University.

CHARACTER

DESIGN

Our two main characters are inspired by the image of young teenagers who are naïve, dreamy and emotionally disoriented by the world, by their feelings. All they want is to let go of everything and run away, to live life to the fullest and love the hardest.

STORYBOARD

Our two protagonists are tired by the commotion of the outside world and the pressure of life. Upon stargazing, a shooting star passed by the night sky, giving them the courage to finally break free from everything and run away to a better world. We also want to depict the mentality of lovesick teenagers in stages, at first being naïve and lost, to finally having the courage to face the world together. They will sacrifice everything for their youth, and for their love.

STYLEBOARD

Characters, backgrounds and other assets are hand drawn by our illustrators on Adobe Photoshop based on the original storyboard. One will be in charge of characters, while the other takes care of background & special effects. These assets are then processed by our animators to create animation.

ANIMATION

Adobe After Effects is our program choice for handling animation. Character & background movements, typography and special effects are added into each scene by our animators. By the end, we patch all the shots together and make final adjustments to the color, camera movement, sound effects, ... to complete our video.
