Prawn Fish Moon x Famous Paintings (2021)
Incorporating Prawn Fish Moon (PFM), a character created by Mural Lingo, into famous paintings. Commissioned by Mural Lingo.

Influenced by the German bauhaus style, the components of the artwork were broken down into simpler shapes. Sneaking in PFM into famous paintings with the vibrant colours add a comical and lighthearted twist to the originals.

Based on Girl with a Pearl Earring (c. 1665), an oil-on-canvas painting by Dutch Golden Age painter Johannes Vermeer.

With PFM replacing the woman in the right version, the formal pose juxtaposed with the vibrant colours adds a comical twist to the original. The left version was created digitally with a chalk brush tool, retaining the realism and seriousness from the original.

Based on The Scream (1893), a mixed media artwork by Norwegian Expressionist artist Edvard Munch.

Similar to the original, PFM holds a shocked expression as he is within the vibrant and intense surroundings, as if stunned by the range of colours in nature. I made two versions of this: watercolour (left) and digital vectors (right). It's interesting to see the potentials of the same artwork recreated in multiple styles and mediums.

Based on The Great Wave off Kanagawa (1831), a woodblock print by Japanese ukiyo-e artist Katsushika Hokusai.

As PFM likes trying new activities, he is pictured on a wooden boat with a scuba mask, preparing to be splashed by the large waves in this experience of a lifetime.

Based on Starry Night (1889), an oil-on-canvas painting by Dutch Post-Impressionist painter Vincent van Gogh.

The intricate sky details were simplified into fewer short strokes, retaining the movement brought about by the swirls. As PFM has a crescent shape, he was used to replace the moon and is seen sleeping peacefully while shining brightly in the sky.
