Movie Poster Assignment -- Judge Dredd (1995) 

When looking for my inspiration, I found that these 90’s posters aligned with the aesthetic and, especially for the original Dredd Poster, the color scheme. 

Movie Poster Project - Sketches 

When sketching, I had several visions about what the poster could ultimately look like. I thought of perhaps having the gun and the badge together, or utilizing the masking tool to have the city within Judge Dredd’s Silhouette. My last idea involved the motorcycle and the city with Judge Dredd in the forefront. I did not end up using any of the ideas, but creating them allowed me to figure out what direction I wanted the entire project to go in. 

Plot Summary

Within Megacity One, crime runs rampant and the only ones keeping the city in line are the Judges, especially Judge Dredd (Sylvestor Stallone). Everything goes wrong when the ex-Judge Rico (Armand Assante), frames Judge Dredd for murder and has him exiled into the wasteland. But his enemies soon learn that exiling and imprisoning him are not enough to keep Judge Dredd from dispensing justice.

I disliked this draft a great deal and then decided to entirely redo the poster, only keeping the top font the same. Everything else changed. 

This is the second draft, which is much closer to the end product. I decided to go with a crisscross look, much like the “Batman and Robin” poster, allowing for both information and imagery to coincide.

Third Draft

The third draft is even closer to the final product, with the lines changed and the font mostly fixed, especially making the title larger.

This is the fourth draft and has some major changes in regards to the layout and the font.

This is the final rendition of the poster, with the font spacing fixed and the middle evened out more in order to make everything both pleasing to the eye and easy to read.
