Apollos Mobility Aid

Stability - Freedom - Recovery

Advancements in modern medicine and care technology has allowed us to live longer healthier lives. As a result, the scope of our design process should extend to the aging population. Mobility aids are one of the numerous developments in this space to provide safety, freedom, and dignity toward these enduring individuals. The Apollos Mobility Aid targets users that have lost a certain level of movement, whether through surgery or injury, guiding them on a path toward recovery.

Mobül Site Visit

Research in mobility aids and rollators led me to Mobül a local distributor/specialist store in Long Beach, CA where Wayne Slavitt, Founder and CEO, introduced their mission and the importance of dignity and comfort with their customers. The assortment of products also provided great insight into the use and ergonomics of various mobility aids.

Key User Quotes
“The [walker] is sturdier, it doesn’t move a lot, it’s good for getting someone up and moving straight.”
“The rollator with turning wheels depends on your legs actually working.”
“Initially I used [the rollator] outside. I don’t need it now. I use a cane...”

Note
The users' main pain points were with the multiple devices and not being able to use it in a flexible manner as they recovered.

Design Challenge
How might we aid the process of recovery in individuals post-surgery/injury?

Impact
Allow the user to capitalize on their independence and have greater control over the recovery process for a smoother experience.
