The Rings Of Vidalia Bring Tears To My Eyes

“The Rings Of Vidalia Bring Tears To My Eyes.” As I mentioned previously, what if... Saturn was actually an onion and its rings were deep-fried? Or, what if I had ever designed a Nudie Cohn suit?
Another of my all-original ladies, created for the first group art show of Season 10 of The ArtBar in Aurora, IL (and the first in-person show in 16 months). Nothing too deep, just a girl that loves onion rings, over-the-top vintage Nudie Cohn suits, and space, created by another one who likes the same things.
Who is Nudie Cohn, you ask? He was an immigrant whose parents sent him to the United States to leave Czarist Russia when he was eleven years old. He originally designed and tailored burlesque undergarments but later founded Nudie’s Rodeo Tailors. He’s the creator of those flamboyant rhinestoned, embroidered and sequined ensembles of 1970s country singers like Dolly Parton’s dude Porter Wagoner. He also tailored the iconic gold lamé suit worn by Elvis Presley around 1957. A Nudie Cohn suit accidentally misplaced in 1974 by Billy Gibbons of ZZ Top was recently featured on “Pawn Stars.” And Post Malone is an avid collector of vintage Nudie.
My version is inspired by Nudie Cohn’s work and is embellished with Swarovski rhinestones. I again modeled for the reference photo but was wearing an Ann Taylor jacket. The hair is inspired by a style by Nashville-area Wigs By Golgi. 14”x18” mixed media drawing with embellishments.
