Big Mac - My entry to the Hum3D 2021 Car Challenge 2021
A while back I wanted to get better with polygonal modelling, so I did the famous #cgmasters tutorial. After finishing the Corvette, I wondered if I learned anything. To put the skills to the task I needed a big project and a deadline. Say hello to the Hum3D Car Challenge 2021. Competition is one way to bring it all together. Since I needed a subject I could look at for a very long time, there was only one logical choice for me. #hum3d #b3d

The biggest thing to do following the #cgmasters method is to establish a solid base mesh.  All the following body panels will derive from it.
Sheetmetal panels are completed, sliced from the guide mesh with thickness added.
The entire volume is now closed.  Moving on to the wheels and the details.
Of all the details, the wiper assembly was the most challenging part to create.
Front wheel assembly and rear brake detail
Front and rear lights textures, front and rear badge textures
Simple interior, done in Alias sub-divisions
For the environment I chose the McLaren Technology Centre in Woking, designed by Foster & Partners.  I replicated the beams holding the outside glass structure.
I rebuilt part of the tech centre from blueprints.   The shot is set on the patio viewing area with the building in the background.  Above you can see the reverse view from above.
Finally, here is a shaded view of the final shot.  A lot of the post-production was done in the Blender compositor.  The final image was completed in GIMP.
