This set design was done by me and one other architecture student for a diploma film “Ekaant” made by FTII students. The brief and the storyline of the film required the making of a detailed miniature set of a very old city, with dilapidated and destroyed buildings. The inspiration came from a city in Syria, that was destroyed due to the ongoing unrest. A lot of research was done in terms of materials since it was important to make the set as realistic as possible. Scale played a significant role as well. From trying innumerable different options with different materials and scales to eventually coming up with the final output, this journey was a very interesting learning experience. The film was finished and screened in FTII a few months later, and received immense adulation for the realistic set and art direction.
