Islam is one of the world's
fastest growing religions, yet it
is also one of the most
misunderstood.
There is no better way to learn about Islam than to read the Holy Qur’an and to observe the practices of a devout Muslim. Unfortunately, the many stereotypes, misconceptions, and misrepresentations prevalent today serve as a great barrier that prevent non-Muslims from understanding the truth about Islam. Lack of access to an English translation of the Qur’an and, moreover, to a knowledgeable Muslim who represents Islam well.
The problem with this project is that it could potentially get the attention of a lot of attackers, if directly linked with Islam. Western media has already tarnished the name of Islam by associating it with things it has nothing to do with. A successful solution would provide the viewers with a simple and powerful message, without the obvious link with Islam. I decided to look at the virtues of Islam, which are virtues that the majority of religions preach and most people agree on. Using these words, I can capture the viewers attention without allowing them to make any generalizations or negative assumptions.
The idea behind the poster series is to showcase the similarities that Islam has with other religions, but not do it in an obvious way. The words are first seen out of context, so there’s not a lot the viewer can go on. The purpose of the poster is to capture positive attention from a distance. As the viewer gets closer, they will be able to read the caption at the bottom and understand how that concept fits into Islam. It enables people to understand the religion without biased opinions or ignorance. The last thing to notice is the logo and website, this allow viewers to learn more if they are interested.
