The Jet Strip, 2021

INSPIRATION
This artwork draws inspiration from a local Inglewood strip club and is infused with the persona of the supervillain Harley Quinn. Unlike the previous paintings in the series, which feature villains wreaking havoc on the city, this artwork subverts the narrative by depicting Harley Quinn rallying girls to join her cause. Notably, the artwork features closed fists holding masks, offering a satirical commentary on the divisive mask controversy during the Covid-19 pandemic. Through this piece, the artist seeks to explore the interplay between pop culture and contemporary issues, while infusing the work with a villainous aesthetic.
CLOSE- UPS
Harley Quinn with her iconic mallet and her two infamous hyenas.
A billboarded gratified with the Jokers signature laughs, hinting the Jokers presence around the area.
A real challenge about this painting was trying to imitate the glow and fluorescent effects of neon lights.
Another challenge was painting small details on the hyenas. Their scale made it a tedious task.
One of my favorite shots about this painting and how it captures the balled up fists right under the sign.
what really brought this painting to life was painting it as if it was happening in motion. Posing and giving the girls action poses and attitude really helped the composition for this painting.
THE PROCESS
Extremely satisfied with the final outcome of the painting that concluded my "Welcome to Inglewood" series. The artwork underwent several transformations and changes, but it is precisely these qualities that contribute to the creation of a great painting. The successful amalgamation of your adoration for my hometown and my fascination with villains is a potent mixture that influenced an enlightening and highly personal series.
