The Analog Smartwatch

The Analog Smartwatch
One device, two time periods.
What if Smartwaches had been created in the 1940s? Surely, they would not have looked the same as they do now! Here is a reimagined analog smartwatch, as it probably would have looked had Rolex invented it in '43.

This Smartwatch has some of the most recognized features your regular modern smartwatch would have, only they are a little more bulky. Perhaps all those functions look ridiculous thrown together like that, but it only comes to show how much technology has advanced; to the point where we can normally fit a plethora of features in a little device.

This poster mimics the style of the 1940s and shows a device that would have been considered a symbol of the "era of change." The illustrations were drawn to ressemble the style of vintage posters, and the Smartwatch design was created based on real analog devices that were used back in the day.
The process required extensive research in order to find a historically accurate depiction of what the item would look like. Then, some sketches were made in order to bring it all together. The item design was blocked out in 3D using Maya to make sure the scale of the features was realistic. The final illustration was drawn in Clip Studio using that 3D blockout as a base. The text then was added in Illustrator using recognizable fonts from that era, and the Rolex logo and "certified chronometer" caption were included as an extra touch of realism.
Some sketches and design progress along the way:
Thank you!
