The Seven Heavenly Virtues

This project is all about creating representations, through digital and analogue means, of the seven heavenly virtues. Often seen as the counterpoints to the seven deadly sins, these virtues were first derived from Psychomachia (‘Contest of the Soul’), an epic
poem written by Aurelius Clemens Prudentius (c. 410 ce) that depicts the battle between the cardinal sins and the good virtues. My goal for this project was to create unique and provoking representations of the heavenly virtues.

This is my spread for the virtue of temperance. Using a figure from a biblical painting, I imposed it over the image of a full bar to show the desperation to resist the temptation of alcohol. The figure is trying their best to withstand the call of the welcoming bar.
Here is my spread for the virtue of charity. Following the example of my depiction of temperance, this virtue also uses a biblical figure. In this example, the Virgin Mary is visiting an ATM with the intention of withdrawing money to give to the less fortunate.
