In May 2010, over a three day weekend, aircraft enthusiasts of every stripe descended on Joint Base Andrews (Andrews Air Force Base) for the Joint Forces Air Show. The show included flying demonstrations by military aircraft like the famous Navy fliers the Blue Angels. Fans were also treated to daredevil acrobatics by civilian stunt pilots.
A big part of the show was the aircraft exhibit, which included several historic military aircraft. Below are some of the photographs that I took at the air show transformed with an oil paint filter and with color enhancement. I give descriptions for each photograph or impression.
What's not to love about "The Air Show"? This impression features several historic military aircraft, a crowd of interesting spectators, and enhanced colors. Because of their distinct profile, most airplane enthusiasts will likely first see the C-54 at the start of the line and perhaps the pair of C-47s toward the end, but the true subject of this image is the "carrot top" just left of center in the frame. If you look around her you'll see that she had her own set of spectators!
My favorite impression in this series is of the beautiful Douglas C-47A Dakota with the designation "Whiskey 7". The W7 is a veteran of D-Day, and today she can be found in Geneseo, New York under the capable care of the National Warplane Museum.
