The brief was to design a poster for the Amnesty International Student Conference in London. The human right I was given to create awareness about was Freedom of Speech so I decided to base my poster on the absence of this basic human right in North Koera.
The image of the spiralling chained up prisoners in the speech bubble references the hypnotic, hell-like life-sentence that citizens must serve in one of the six brutal prison camps as a result of speaking against the strict regime. The eye ball in the centre of the artwork communicates the constant surveillance.
The counter detail in the top left of the poster emphasises how many North Koreans are detained everyday as there is a constant number of 200,000 prisoners in the camps, yet 400,000 have died and more are dying all the tiime, so the more that die the more are detained, always keeping the prisoner number at around 200,000.
This is the Amnesty International app designed to continue to run after the Student Conference has ended. It informs downloaders on Amnesty's current campaigns, allows the users to sign selected petitions and make donations at ease.
