CENTAUR MT PRO: Strong, Elegant, & FUN

In my BYUI Graphic Design class, I learned about typefaces and their history. For this assignment, I was instructed to choose a font and create a poster advertising the poster to customers who might be interested in buying the font. The poster is 16x20 and uses the typeface Centaur MT Pro. There are only two fonts used, the regular and bold, because the italic and bold italic were not available through BYUI.

The Centaur typeface is a beautifully designed Roman-type font designed by Bruce Rogers. He created each letter based on a font by Nicolas Jenson in 1470. If you look closely, each letter has unique strokes, swoops, and lines making the letters look elegant and strong. I incorporated these qualities into the design process and added my own small flair of fun. Notice the lower case e in the poster. It looks like it is having fun!

I used overlapping on the C and R to create depth as well as bleeding some of the design off the edge of the page. The focal point is at the top left of the paper, and the eye follows the design down the page to the right and finally to the price, history, and finally to the regular and bold alphabet along the edges. The color blocks are repeated to create unity in the design.
