High Vs Low
Monroe vs Hepburn. Comics vs photography. Greyscale vs colour. High art vs Low art. This digital collage piece compares, contrasts and challenges the audience to find meaning. For this piece, I studied the view of society on different styles of arts and used that perspective and compared it with their views of the top actresses of the 60s. The 1961 film "Breakfast At Tiffaney's" leading woman role was first designed for Marilyn Monroe but the producers decided on Hepburn because of her "girl next door" appearance, she was more relatable and could be more believable for her to be poor. Hepburn was also modest whereas Monroe was sexualized and viewed negatively in media.
