ERENKOY HOSPITAL FOR MENTAL AND NERVOUS
DISEASES
2020 | Architectural Competition
Group Project
To design Erenköy Mental and Neurological Hospital project crossed by a comprehensive reading, research and face-to-face meeting with the experts of the subject. Considering the Therapeutic Environment (Milieu) as use.
Funtionality instead of places designed for ‘curing’ in mental health hospitals that are managed by a strict determinist approach, as one of the most extreme points of the positivist science understanding. Considering the areas where patients can interact and socialize; the design of non-reductive therapeutic action review has been achieved by pushing coexistence of women and men as an therapeutic aproach that reduces violence. Apart from this, the area is an example of the holistic green in the disctrict, which we can call a city forest, and there are very few examples. Green land of Erenköy Hospital for Mental and Nervous Diseases is an ‘oasis’ to be respected and kept in urban scale.
The contradictory situation of poor physical environment and conditions that we have noticed on the field trip leads to strategy of building structures to provide comfort and safety for patients as well as the staff.
