Project brief of A Trip To Town asks for a mobility product to assist the elderly in being able to go out and interact with existing products and services within their city.
The proposal initially was to design an updated rollator and potentially incorporate existing technology and products within the one product to cater for all elderly people who may require mobility assists. For this particular project you are asked to work in teams of two.

What we found
Early research revealed a lot of people suffering loneliness and isolation aswel as a result of their mobility problems.
Early insights were that products were not offering anything except physical support of existing health problems and helping with those problems but not fixing them (e.g. lack of therapy and treatment).
Most common products were researched and much of what was expected was confirmed that the products were just helping with problems and not fixing them. Should the users mobility/disability decline then the product would have to be changed to manage with the on-going problem.

What we aim to do
Proposal is to create a window of opportunity for the user to be encouraged to go outside and to feel safe while doing so. Providing a means of support and a sense of independence. It is to provide the user with a product that has multiple functions that not only assists with mobility but encourages outings also. We plan on creating a product which can be portrayed as an accessory to the user. Providing multiple functions allows the user to assess their journey or task and choose which position is required.
