Duchess Nail Polish

This project was for Flagler's Package Design class.

The challenge for this project was to create a rigid box structure that is sustainable and housed three items. Nail polish was chosen as the three items and from there a design idea was formed. In the planning process, the original idea was to do a hexagonal box but in order to reduce waste it was changed to a trapezoidal box. The lid could be reused as a ring or jewelry holder. Additionally, for customers to see the colors of the nail polish, there must be a clear window for them to see the products which would be made of recyclable plastic. When branding the nail polish, the idea was to create a brand slightly inspired by the early 1800’s Regency Era in England. Lastly, the colors and the floral motifs in the background are different representations of the shade names. This project was fun, but it definitely was challenging. Figuring out how to use the matboard was a struggle. A lot was learned about sizing on die patterns and how if a measurement is just a fraction off it will be incorrect. Having the actual product really made it easier to get proper dimensions as well. On a different note, looking at different materials that could be used was exciting because there are so many different resources. Overall, it was a great learning experience.
